whats up locos,
so here is the report for today.  I pulled up about 7:45 and was greeted with a flat cove and a beautiful rising sun.  I waited for shellback for awhile but I just could not contain myself. I loaded up and shipped out to the island.   I anchored up and got after, and what do you know........ gear issues.  Shellback will attest, i have gear issues everytime.  but thats part of being a beginner diver.  hopefully i will figure shit out soon.

anyways lets get to the good stuff.   shellback pulled out the first fish, a nice little rocky.  I picked up a perch, just because  it was in front of me.  I picked up a nice 15" cabby and then it got crazy.  I was cruising around when i see this  marble greenish looking piece of rock tucked in the coral.  I stared at it for a good three or four minutes before going down to check it out.  I pulled up on the sling took a breath and headed down.  I didnt know what it was but decided it was time to let metal fly, and out comes a nice monkey faced eel.  Bad thing was he wiggle off.  as i come up for air, here comes my superhero shellback, with his paralyzer tip ready to f sh!t up.  he ended getting the rule 3 "double tap" (zombieland) and we got it to the yak.  all in all it was a great day.  shellback will have photos up a little later.  Best part of the day "no yard sale getting back on the beach"

I gotta clean my gear and fish before I get my side of the story out and post pics.  But for now, the double tap rule...

Best part of the day "no yard sale getting back on the beach"

After my daughter stopped crying last night when these two guys showed up (she had just fell and bumped her knee), she started flirting with Darrel when we were hanging out back in my shed and Jeff said that his name was YardSale and she kept on running around yelling "YardSale! YardSale! YardSale!"

LMAO!!!

Ok. here we go.  I spent the night at some friends house in Santa Cruz last night and Darell and I dropped by BigJim's place and I got my anchor that he was holding for me from our last outing.  Thanks again for that buddy.  Darell and I didnt exactly see eye-to-eye on what was an appropriate time to get to SWS so Darell got there probably an hour before me :smt044 When I arrived I found Darell already out by the islands.  That kid is motivated!

I then anchored up and got in the water (I'm loving my new sticker btw)

Darell and I had been talking about how we always see tons of ab shells but no live abs, when I got in the water Darell pointed some live ones out that he saw to me.

The seals were chillin with us today.  They remind me of dogs.

We were spearing fish here and there then moved to the far (ocean) side of the island and found great structure there as well as a super dense kelp forest with some big blues and decent sized rockfish.  There is a big shelf underwater on the far side of the island and I saw some good rockfish in there as well as a couple lings in there.  Its gonna be on in April.  Anyhow, I speared a fish and swam back to the other side of the island to put it on my game clip and just as I was returning to the opposite side of the island where Hotplate was I saw him swimming back up to the surface and a Eel down below him flailing wildly in the water.  I thought, "holy shit! I'm not going to let this eel get back in a hole, I hope Darell doesnt think I jacked his eel, but no time to talk it out" So I dove down and nailed him with my spear, double tapped that hoe Zombieland style!  Swam back up topside and highfived Darell.  After that I speared a chunky Blue and on the way back to the yak I saw an Eel in a hole!  Wow!  I took a shot and am pretty sure I hit him in the head, cause all that was sticking out of the hole was his eyes and mouth, but my spear didnt stick so that sucks that I injured him and didnt get to keep him, I dont like jacking fish up without taking them home, but thats how it goes sometimes I suppose.  The whole day I had Cabbies on my mind and was looking hard for those camoflauged guys and finally found one!  Took the shot...14 inches, bummer, hurt another fish.  At least I finally found one!  Then Darell started having gear issues as usual, and my calves started cramping and I had 5 fish already on the stringer so we called it a day.
Here is the spearo of the day, Hotplate/Darell

Awesome day, looking forward to next time.

shellback, i feel bad for not having a camera.  i feel like someone should be documenting you in all the cool stuff that you are doing. im saving for one starting today.  Big Jim im not sure about sunday.  It might be tough  to get away from the mrs as sunday is one of our days to hang out, but i will check.  for sure in the future though.  i need to get my boogie board platform up and running.  so the eel did produce alot of meat.  I filleted like a fish, cut it into strips and fried it.  needless to say it WAS good.  until next time...
