I went out today checking out a new spot in Courtland at the midway point in the deep water channel. I didnt get a chance to take the yak out because I didnt know what launching would be like. Early morning the water is up to the top of the bank so launching will be easy. Caught  3 stripers, all 22-23" and 6-7 lbs. They stopped biting at about 10:30 when the tide was going out. I will be going back in the yak for sure.

That sounds like a good spot. Any bait stealers?

Yeah today was definately a good start to the fishing season. Im gonna try to get out there again soon but be out there at around 5 in the morning. I didnt have any bait stealers thankfully. Just tied the sardines on real good with that polyester wrap stuff. The water is calm out there all day si im thinking getting the yak out there is gonna be a blast. Gonna try  some jumbo minnows next time

Great post, keeper stripers and no bait stealers is a good day, I'm on the lazy side and enjoy dunking bait myself, those occasional ships going by are huge when you're sitting there in a yak.

Good report k5 and better scoring some fish. The deepwater channel way down behind courtland or even clarksburg has some killer bank spots. Usually because not of lot people can get that far. Glad you found a spot with fish in it. Now get back out there and slam them off the yak! ricci

Its definately reccomended you have a truck with 4wheel drive. There is a lot of deep slippery mud in some places out there. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the amount of trash out there. If bank fishing its horrible. We had a fire going this morning and tried to burn as much trash as possible in our area just so we weren't tripping over it every 2 minutes. Other than that, if you can get out there when the tide is coming in and during slack tide, you can bang them out. When the tide starts going out the action stops drastically.

On another note.. Are there any marinas on the deep water channel out there? Say If i wanted to launch my yak and still come back to a complete car?

No! No marinas in the port! Your best spot for any launching and not having to worry about theft is at the port
