I went to see this Hobie tandem today..

http://modesto.craigslist.org/boa/2178783831.html

Its very dirty, and its an older model hobie, probably first run hobie tandem.

The drives are in OK shape, they work and don't seem to be beat up. The kayak's hull is scratched up, but no deep gouges and no cracks.  Drivewells seem ok, rudder functioning ok.  It floats and I paddled it a bit in his pool.  A couple of cheap paddles.

These are the older style hobie pedals, stainless steel sprockets.

He made a couple of funky modifications, cutting 4 small holes (about 1" in diameter) on the rails of the kayak to insert a scotty style flushmount rodholder, and an old plastic fishfinder/etc mount.  you can see the holes in the pictures.

He is asking for $595 but was willing to take $550.  He might be willing to go lower.

I passed because i felt the kayak would take too much work for me right now.  If you're interested in a cheap two man pedal kayak and not worried about how dirty it is then you might want to get in touch with him.  This is an older hobie so the seats are not removable.

That sounds promising, once you put a little TLC and work into it.  Might be a good project  But I'm afraid to buy it, fearing EWB's retribution.   :smt044  But at least I wouldn't be selling a yak as part of the transaction.

Yeah, he sent me a message that he cleaned it up and put new pictures up.

makes some sense.  I was looking to buy one to part out the drives and keep the kayak, but since these are the older original style drives I don't think they are worth as much as a newer style (like 2005) drive.
