On my way to the ISE, I stopped by the Port of Sacramento to scope it out.  I drove around, but I couldn't figure out how to get to the water.  When I asked the Port Police Officer at the main entrance where I could launch a kayak, he told me that it was the next entrance over.  I went to the next entrance over (a gate without any sign on it), and drove to the water.   There was no one around, but the signs stated that the area was a private area for a boating club.  There were also signs stating that a permit was needed to launch.

I didn't think this was the place where NCKA'ers launch.

So....Where do you launch your kayak and park your car a the Port of Sacramento?

Thanks,

Abdiver

That's the place.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

talk about ghetto...the time was there a dude had a 12 foot alum at the bottom of the ramp and 100+ feet of rope that went up the ramp, around the gate and tied to the A pillar of his beat to hell toyota car. He was backing up the dirt lot (where the two cars are parked in that pic) to pull the boat up the ramp...I ran for cover waiting for that rope to snap (it never did)...oh and they had limits!

Thanks.  This helps a lot.  I still can't find it on Google Earth.  Does anyone know the cross street with Jefferson?

The closest cross street is South River Road.  Look for the dirt road near the water.  I found it on Google map.

OK- if you just do a search (upper right hand corner of page) on this site for Port, Barge etc. you see a bunch of old posts with maps etc.
I know I've posted maps/directions a bunch of times. :smt002
Search function is great! :smt003

Before I posted this thread, I tried the search function on the "Forum" and  on the "Places to Launch and Camp".  I didn't find any maps or directions to the Port of Sacramento.  I tried "port" and "Port of Sacramento".  Even now, I still don't find anything specific regarding launch points except for my thread.

OK, before I posted my suggestion to use the search function I also searched the same words and swear I came up with about 19 or so pages of info. When I tried after seeing your response I only got what you said you saw. Very strange. Someone must want to keep this place to themselves! :smt002

JK, I searched some old posts and found these:

BTW: have you used google maps? There's cool views (satellite, hybrid etc.) that let you snoop around an area if you have a general idea where something is.

If you want something bad enough keep searching it's on here, I've personally gone through the archives scrolling through posts to find obscure info. on the stuff that I want many times. As in fishing, don't give up keep casting!

Post a hook up if you go and I'll try to meet up with you(if it's a weekend) and show you around.
Someone from this area is always hot to fish the Port!

FWIW when it comes to the search function; if you are in a certain section of the forum and use the search function, I believe that it only searches that section.  However, if you are on the main forum page, it will search every section of the forum.

This may explain why you are both searching for the same thing but getting different results.

The search function on this website doesn't work the same way each time.  I used the search function on both the "Forum" and "Places to Launch and Camp," when I started this thread.  I did not get the same results that I just got a few minutes ago.

This is just an FYI for people to know about.
