C'mon Darius, it don't look that bad for crabbing. :smt001

Saturday: NNW wind 5 to 8 kt. Mostly sunny. W swell 9 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

I might be able to make it. If I can it would be later in the morning though.

Definite maybe.    I've always run in to NCKA current or future members while out there.  Hopefully you'll run into Richard, one of our newest members who will out crab most of us.

If I hear Jack is cooking tacos again then, I'm in!

Ooh, didn't notice the swell report. I'll have to keep an eye on that since I'll have a newb with me.

Swell will most likely be gigantic on Saturday, but because of the direction, doran will be mostly protected (key word MOSTLY).  I will be out there tomorrow when the swell should be around 6-8 feet, so I'll let yall know how it is.

Thanks for that, Brian. Much appreciated. If nothing else I'll have him stick close to the jetty.

Darius - Doran Park is in Bodega Bay. It's a little over an hour North of the Golden Gate.

It's doable because it's protected but the dungies tend to hunker down or go elseware in the big swell so you don't get as many.  I'm a 50/50 chance but it will be in the afternoon if I make it.

Im 50/50 on it, but all I use is rings and they suck in the swell, BUT I just might drive out , pump a few ghosties and shore fish for a bit @ Bodega.

Hey folks,  I took a drive out to Doran around 4:00 today, talked to a guy with a small zodiak he had 6 crab for his 5 hour effort.  The ground swells were impressive rolling in from the south.  At times it looked like they would break, off the end of the north jetty.

 I have not seen ground swells that size and coming from the south, this crab season.  Other than the swells the water looked great.  The tide was really low as well.

Thanks for the info, all. My babysitter just backed out on me, so if I do make it out there it won't be until noon or so. I might just end up going out to Two Rock and running some ammo tests for my .17.

Hi Doug!  That was me out there on the zodiac.  Nice to meet you.

Report;
Went out around 1130, set pots in 20-30fow.  Pulled at 1200, got around 6-10 crab per pot, mostly rock, undersized dungies, and females.  On first pull managed to get 3 nice keeper jumbos in two pots (I only keep the big ones).  Second pull around 1300, 3 more very large crab (7" plus) mixed in with the usual riffraff.  Next pull at 1500, NO CRAB AT ALL.  The outgoing tide completely stopped the fishing, and there were no more crab in anyone's gear.  The super-high tide was apparently the best time to fish, as they were in nice and close and in good numbers.
The swell was larger than I have been out in at Doran, and right in line with the south Jetty there is a sandbar which I fish the inside of.  The swell builds over this sandbar and looks like its going to break, but it will flatten out in the deeper water and break near shore.  Hopefully it stays the same today with the much larger swell coming in.  Good luck guys, and fish the high tide till around 1300!
