I've just been using my 5' trout rod...  Maybe I could catch one finally if I buy a crappie pole? 

I was bass fishing last year and caught these funny looking bass with small mouths that were tall and skinny compared to bass.  I thought they were mutant bass! Then after all the experts on here showed me what crappie looked like. I must already have a crappie pole.

Med. Heavy Bass rod works good for me

I use an ultra mirco rod.... which means every fish seems like that 16"er. I have even caught 16" SM  on it. 

They may be easy to catch but the talented pan fishermen catch more and bigger. They are pretty impressive to watch. Our own Bsteves absolutely kills it.

Good lord Eric, with such a heavy rod, how do you even know you've hooked something?  Can't imagine there's much fight.
