Its been over a week since I cracked a carapace and I'm itchin' to pick some meat ! (not terribly often you get to use that sentence in polite society)

I'm planning on hitting the landing at 0900 for a likely 2-3 hour paddle and attempt at nabbing some crab.

Conditions look favorable with only 4'-7' swell predicted at WestHaven with grey, but dry skies and wind under 10mph.

Anybody care to join in ?

I would like to but have a project to finish.  What do you use for bait?  I used squid last week and wonder if it is the best since my salmon heads are gone.  Also, when you put your pots out do you get south of pilot rock?

I spent 3 fantastic hours on the water ,  made a couple of new friends, and managed to catch enough crab for dinner !

I bait with a family pack of chicken legs from Murphy’s and generally fish somewhere between Prisoner Rock and  bell buoy #4

It looks like there will be a small crew heading back out on Sunday 1-16 at 0900.

1-16-11 .... The 10’-12’ swells at Westhaven made for some challenging crabbing but thankfully the wind and rain stayed down and didn’t add to the already aggressive conditions.

Jrwilkinson, Monique, and I launched together at 0900 and were soon joined by a couple of cool dudes from the Chico area (both promised to join NCKA and were interested to hear about the local kayak angler scene)

We only ended up bringing one crab home. We had a second but Monique panicked and threw it back in the ocean after it pinched her. I think she tempted fate when on the last trip she lamented that she had yet to be nipped ... be careful what you wish for !

Even though we didn’t harvest much seafood I think everyone was still had a  great time and was glad they had made the effort to be there ... It was a good day to be alive !
