I cruised the 71' over to Darrel's place in Capitola and transferred gear into his vehicle and hit the road to SWS.

We arrived at the SWS pier and hit the water at 1330 in Darrels Malibu 2.  Before hitting the water we ran into a few guys from the Monterey Tritons.  They said they are having a meeting on Saturday and urged us to come.  No thanks, were down with NCKA.  So Darrel and I hit the water in the M2 and immediately tip the thing.  Darrel and I are both 220-230ish and with our gear we had that biotch loaded to capacity, it was super tippy and barely above the water line.  Good thing there wasnt any wind or swell to deal with, otherwise we would have had to get our Navy Seal on and swim for it.  So we paddle over to the islands directly off the end of the pier, ANCHOR up, put the rest of our gear on and got to it.

Here is where we anchored, right next to the arch.

The area was teeming with life.  If you look closely, there are two fish in this picture.  A China? in the background.

I speared the guy in the front!

Had him pose for a "calendar" shot.

So I'm swimming around in the area and I come across a rusted out small speargun.

With these initials on it.  Mooch?

So we swam around, speared some decent sized Greenlings, and various other rockfish.

Darrel ended up coming away with the big fish of the day, a 15" Cabezon and a 17" Greenling.

I had some good sized fish as well.

Not a bad day at all at SWS

Thanks for the report. It is amazing that SWS continues to produce in spite of having so much fishing pressure.

Wtg brothers on your outing, you both did well! How funny you found a speargun with Mooch's initials :)

I've never speared there but have paddled through that area while fishing and have seen fish teeming that area quite often. Cool thing is that area ain't too deep, just be careful with the swells that sweep through that area.

Awesome job fellas!! :D
