Hey all,

Everyone did me very well with the Russian Gulch recommendation and I love it up there but wifey wants a change of scenery. Is there any good camping on the coast near San Luis Obispo that the wife and kiddo can play but I can still sneak out for a couple hours to fish. We also have a dog which can or not go.

Thanks again and tight lines~!

More on Montana de Oro

Decent campground there, feels remote but only fifteen minutes from town in Los Osos. You can pop into town for dinner or whatever you need.
Sites are 25.00, if I remember right. They may not take reservations, you may want to be careful about summer weekends and availability.

you're just a few hundred yards from a nice cove with good access for launching your kayak. There are kelp beds just outside of the mouth and to the South with the usual suspects, blues on the smaller side. Paddle deeper to reefs for larger models; I've caught good vermillions and lings there. definitely need a sonar to be productive in those deeper areas though.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

also, a drive up the coast to Cayucos is a nice trip, and you can launch on the north side of the pier there. I'm not positive about closures in the area, but I used to do well on rockies and inshore fish just by paddling along the coast. I used to poke pole that area as well, & caught MFE's regularly. Lots of kelp & structure.

There our a few with beach access my personal fav on the coast is San simeon only a 1 mile drive to the easy boat launch area and great fishing up and down the coast from there and not really an MLPA to worry about unless you drive a ways up the coast.
MDO there is an MLPA about 1/2 mile to the south of the launch.
You can also camp in morro bay and paddle around the bay.
There our a few more with a little driving involved PM if you want some more info.
