I've wanted to do this for a while, as I've mentioned to Polepole and Bird.  Maybe this is the year to pull it off.

Here's the setup:  My company owns most of the lower half of the Noyo River.......and an old fishing cabin on the river........and I want to fish it.  But there's some logistical problems.  The only winter ready road (no waterbars) that gets to a put-in is at the old town of Alpine (check it out on Google maps), and the only take-out is at Company Ranch, about ten miles downstream.  The cabin is nearly in the middle (near Grove).  Now the cabin, the condition of which is uncertain right now, is not accessible by trucks in winter, but is accessible by ATV that I have access to.

So my plan is to scare up some guys that want to try this as an overnighter.......in January or February.  I'm thinking of hauling the camping gear in to the cabin by ATV so we don't have to stow it in the boats.  The other logistical problem is flow:  The water needs to be green and running at around 300 - 600 cfs.  Any less and it's not float-able; any more and its dangerous (strainers).

This is a C&R expedition and I might even ask folks to tag some fish and collect data.

So, is anyone interested is this half-baked idea?

Dave

im in for this, i have a friend that has a cabin in the same area, at least it sounds exactly like you describe, he has been trying to get me out there for a few years for fishing and cooking with his chef and winemaker friends, they have to atv in also and are right on the river in a good section, so he says, ive never been on that river but it has intrigued me now for awhile, cameron

Yeah, this would be on the weekend.  I'll post more about it as I dig into it a little more.  I'm also wondering if we can take the Skunk Train up and drop us off.

That'd be fun to get on the skunk train.  The cabin is right on the line, so we could dump our crap off there.......no ATV shuttle.  They usually close for the winter, but maybe they'd do a special weekend thing.  I'll find out tomorrow.
