i'm thinking of a single day, MBF using a modified "One FLy" tourney rules... want to judge the interest.

The one fly is a tourney where the anglers are literally only allowed a single fly- you can repair it, but you can't put a new one on. I think that's too strict for our snaggy waters, so...

Here's the scoop:

1) Probably Ft ross area early rf season
2) AOTY rules apply for species points
3) You can choose one pattern to use that day:
3a) Pattern is defined as a single color, style, and length of artificial lure
3b) weight of lure is not considered a differentiator of a pattern (you can have a 2oz and a 4oz leadhead for a 6" rootbeer scampi)
3c) up to 12 individual lures are allowed
3d) only on single or treble hook allowed
3e) only one lure in water allowed at any one time per angler
4) Patterns are chosen prior to launch, no other pattern may be brought on the water
5) mass start at 8am
6) 1pm finish
7) Most points wins

what do you think?  Should we restrict the patter to choose the weight of it too?  what else would you include and/or exclude?

sounds like fun. I think weight shouldn't be an issue...it just has to be the same color, etc. Only weight is different (which is want I think you are saying).  Also so is longest single fish? or longest RF mixed bag (one RF, one ling, one cab, one greenling). And only one single/treble hook...meaning no leadhead jig AND a shrimp fly above.

Good clarifications!

of course you'd have to have a leadhead jig and a shrimpfly that were the same pattern- 8" scampi and a 2" scampi for instance- i clarified-- single lure, single pattern only

mixed bag i think- AOTD format

Sounds like fun Steve I have always thought it would be fun to have everybody fish the same lure if you pitched it to a lure maker you might be able to supply all the Lures talk to Dave maybe Big Hammer be interested.

I think you should only allow a couple lures. Lure retention is a skill too.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

Steve

In the spirit of "one fly" shouldn't it be a hand tied fly? I know a lot of the guys roll their own flies for saltwater. You can build weedless flies so it is possible to restrict it to one fly. I tied some flies which lasted multiple seasons. Anyway, if the day is open, I will participate and use just one hand tied fly.

I would be down for this for sure. Tigerfish has an intimate connection with hammer and could get soft plastics. That is what we are talking about right? Or are you suggesting flies used with a fly rod? Sorry.

So, i'm thinking you could choose Iron, Rubber, flies, whatever you want- as long as it only has a single hook and there's one of them on the line.

Iron v. Rubber Smackdown!

Craig-- you know what color i'll be choosing...  :)
