GS5 - Sunday, May 15th - REGISTRATION IS OPEN ON PAGE 21 and closes 4/15/11

52 days is it?...

DFG never got back to me.  Even though they listed an opener date of Saturday the 14th on their website right here:  http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/groundfishcentral/regulations.asp  DF'nG is apparently opening the season on Sunday, May 15th, 2011 - so that's when we're having this tournament.  Someone I respect very much suggested that we should have the potluck on Sunday to go with the tournament, but I know some people will have to leave that afternoon.  We'll have the potluck Saturday, and we'll have a leftovers/second round potluck and awards ceremony on Sunday.  Fishing time is dawn until 1PM, and check in closes at 2PM.  The check-in station will be at the launch and no other entries will be allowed.  We'll have the awards at the start of the leftovers potluck - around 4PM.  That should allow for those who need to bail out and go home. 

Nothing will stop this from being a great event.

I don't think so.  Maybe just check in with some locals on the list.  Actually, several locals who'll be there have not signed up yet, so maybe check back in a couple weeks on that - you're welcome to fish with Brandi and I.  We plan to get on the water just before dawn.   

That new breakwater looks great!  I am glad they re-paved the access road.  I hate it when my wheelez bounce down the trail, I demand a smooth path 

The water looked a little muddy.  I hope conditions are calm for the tourney.  I loved the water year before last, you could see the blacks swarming on the tops of the rocks!  Pretty neat to watch them chase your shrimp flies around.  I did well on the perch last year along the break water.  I will have to try again this year.

I look forward to your upcoming salmon reports!  I would love to catch an ocean run salmon this year.  The river has been poor pickings the last few years.  The fish that have made it up are in pretty bad shape.

I can't wait for the cove!

Tomorrow marks 3 weeks until registration closes.  I've given this lots of thought, and it's just not fair to those who got it in on time to let people sign up late, so I won't do it.  I'll put up more advisories about it in the next two weeks.

I like your idea of charging $100 and having no chance of winning any prizes or getting a t-shirt for late sign ups.  Just make it easy on yuur self by closing the sign ups on April 15.

A view from The Tides.  The potluck is literally on the cliff over the beach here.  This is how the water his been the past two years, and we pray that we get it like this or better for GS5.  A limit of abs is easy pickens right out in front there in 15-20' 

So, get this:  I saw this on Humboldt Tuna Club the other day: http://humboldttuna.com/smf/index.php?topic=4757.0 where “Sandcrab”, who’s been attending the big meetings, basically says that DF’nG might open the season on May 1st!!!!!  W   T    F???????  I’ll be happy to get more fishing days in, but I wanted the tournee to be on the opener!  At this point, who knows when the opener will actually be!

We’re fishing on May 15th no matter what (and I’m hoping to be feasting on the pink prior to that!)
