No kidding!  I miss the good old days when I went fishing when it was flat - year round.

The rockfish/ling fix has been a big draw for Gimme Shelter since it's on the opener.  Salmon fishing was our original focus back in 2007 when 6 of us met up in March @ GS1!  (it didn't have a name at that point!   :smt005)  Having more to fish for and better chances of a good ocean and warmer weather has made the decision easy to have the tournee in mid May instead of late Winter.  There was even some consideration of moving the tournee to a Summer month to give even more assurance of conditions that would allow success, but I feel that holding the tournee at the opener is crucial to the buildup and climax of the whole event.

I might just have to turn this into the official thread - I was trying to hold off until after the new year...   :smt003

looking forward to it very much. I guess k need to start thinking of cool-sounding team names. Actually, I just need to follow BigJim around the whole day to win myself a kayak. Let the trash-talking officially begin!

If it was held on the weekend after the opener, it would give me thaw whole weekend to fish for rf/lings- as I need to leave on Sunday after the tourney to get back to work on Monday

I've ben looking forward to this as soon as I pulled out the the campsite from the last one! Leaving Sledge behind while he fished a few more days makes me to make sure I spend even a few more days up here than last. I love fishing up here and look forward to kicking off the season with a bang!
Has anyone started the potluck thread yet?  :smt044

Sin Coast claims 5/14 is the opener, and I trust that mo-fo!  I'll make it official soon, but sounds like we're holding GS5 on Saturday, May 14th, 2010!!!   :smt007

Good site, Jason.  Thanks for posting that.  There are some great minus tides later in the week after the tournee...
