I am fishing a bass tournament at Shasta in Jan, and I won't have time to do a recon trip.  Any advice is appreciated (PM preferred).

PM function down here...

My advice:  get a houseboat.  Oh, and wait until July.  Uh, also invite us.   :smt003

Why would you want to catch baby black bass when you have monster lings all over your backyard Eric!  :smt003

Although the houseboat and beer sounds good.........

I caught a 24 lb catfish from the lake this year!  Fun spot.

Tough time for a tournament on Lake Shasta. I have done it before. A lot of fish will be suspended in the water column so think jigs and swim baits suspending jerk baits. If you can find steep ledges by deep water use 1/2oz. pig and jigs and hop down the banks. I hope you have good electronics cause you will need them. When you find fish arch's work em. Controlled depth fishing will pay off in the winter. Work slow the fish will be lethargic.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Black Ab,

I will advise FLW to change the date of their tournament date, and ask which division we could enter a house boat with 10 kayaking co-anglers.

FLW as a co-angler?  Sounds like fun no matter what time of year.  I tevo-ed the FLW Shasta from last winter.  It looked like some tough fishing.  Best wishes.

That's easy...minnows!

Sorry, couldn't resist.  I've fished tourney's in the snow on Shasta...it sucks but the fish will still bite.  Go small, and go slow.  Small root beer pig/jigs, 30' of water, in the rocks.  Have also had some of my best bites ever w/ the drop shot in January.  Stick to the main body, or at least the main arms.  If we get some decent weather next weekend I'll run up and check things out.  Also, the bite will be extremely light, if you feel any resistance set the hook.  Hope that helps, good luck!

As I recall the Pit arm has the most lumber in it.
