The finish on the balls on RAM Rod holders and mounts tend to be a bit on the rough side, which can make it difficult to spin your rod holders.  When you install a RAM Rod Holder, make sure to install the standoff with the spring on the same end as the rod holder, NOT the end with the ball mount that attaches to your deck.  You'll find that you don't have to loosen the tension knob nearly as much to rotate your rod holder.

Note:  The standoff is the part shaped like two clam shells with the tension handle screwed into the side of it.

Thanks for the tip YakDaddy.  I actually do the opposite, so that the arm is still attached to the FF or rod holder when I take them off the mount. But I might flip it around and see if its easier to adjust.
