I plan to include a paragraph in my Sentinel column about Christmas gifts for the fisherman in the house.

I'm going to advise against buying rods and reels and terminal tackle or lures (unless they REALLY know what their angler wants), and suggest smaller more affordable but useful generic items.  Tackle boxes, plano boxes, pliers, fillet knives, hats, gift certificates.

So, I guess my question is, What would YOU like under the tree this Christmas?

(Then, you can leave your browser open where you wife might see it.........) You feelin' me now?

Allen

I think a gift certificate to a local tackle shop would be the best way to go.....

Or perhaps $$ for a 2011 fishing license  :smt002

Great idea. I have an older pair of these Flik Fish by Gerber and they are great. Awesome multi tool that is fisherman focused. Cool thing is you can open the tool one handed. If I lost them I'd go get another pair ASAP.

My Yellowtail print from A.Bachar has been one of the best presents my parents have gotten me.

I'd also suggest some reel repair/tune up from Alan Tani. Not sure if he does gift cards but I think lots of guys overlook it. I know if my wife got me that I'd think she actually cares about my passion.

Allen a great gift $16-22 is a Pair of Leadmaster Pliers if he/she fishes Steelies they will treasure them forever. They have 9 models great for lure building also, I like the 6" Drift master. I've had mine for 30yrs and I still panic when I can't find them.

These are pretty handy also can't remember the name but I got them at Western Tool found them for the Mooch I think they were $12
Also great for wireing projects

If you read the wording carefully you will find there is more to it than just going fishing. 'FISH ANY DAY' meaning ANY day. Picnic day with the mother-in-law..BAM! Whip out the pass.
Honey, I need you to take the kids clothes shopping. Today is the last day of the sales. It's gonna be a mad house out there. I'd go but I have a hair appointment. BAM! Whip out the pass.
Honey, my second cousin twice removed, well her kid is getting married and we are going to the wedding. it's only a six hour drive. We can rent a hotel and stay the night...No, you've never met her. BAM! Whip out the pass.
REDEEMABLE ANY TIME. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
OK, maybe three passes would be better.
