we had a member by the name of "kayakbuilder" that made his own wooden kayak. But what made his unique was that he followed the plans for a sit on top and modified it with the Hobie mirage drive. It was a heavy yak but it was really nice to look at.

Jeesh and I was happy with my home made "Greenland" paddle. I have yet to try it but making shavings was fun

Can you post a picture of the paddle Eric? Sounds like a great winter project...

I will post up some pics tomorrow when its light out. I made of from a 2x8....total cost was about $7. Trimmed it (to a rough shape) with a jig saw. Then used a draw knife and plane to fine tune it. Something real soothing about having a beer and making LONG ribbons of wood shavings. Have no clue if it will work but that isn't the point

Here are the pics. Its actually not bad weight wise. I am sure I could shave more off. Which I may do after I test paddle it.

I made one of these a few years back. Beautiful boat; fun project!

Paul, do you still have it? I know there's a member in NWKA that uses the same boat to fish. Always loved the rowing idea over the paddling  :smt045 I just wish they were light enough to carry around  :smt001

Yup, I still have it. Sad to say, it hasn't seen water in a long time. Neglected.  :smt009

It is a very graceful design, and moves well through the water. Not much freeboard, so it's not a good craft for rough conditions or unprotected beach launches. The ocean is no problem on nice days. It would be fine for lake stuff, and can be car topped, but it's a bit big for one person to tote around. Stable enough to stand up in- would make a good casting platform for the Fly guy. Great boat for someone with a boat house on Tahoe. Alas, that's not me!
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.
