Parents were in town from NOLA for Turkey Day...already had 5 abs, 1/2 a fat Ling, a MonkeyFace PrickleBack, and some Wahoo and Mahi courtesy of Sledge, but wanted to use my last two ab tags and get some uni for the party as well!!  :smt004

Met up with my buddies Robert and Jim Okumoto at the RedBarn with Allen, Lorenzo and Sledge. Allen and Lorenzo opted for their secret spot and Sledge and I followed Jim O down to the Fort.

My Dad and Robert stayed on the beach and drank beer and so did Sledge!!   :smt005

Jim and I headed out and over to a rocky area and started exploring!!

My first time there!!! Really enjoyed it and even though there was some pretty strong surge where we were diving and the viz was a little off I saw plenty of decent abs and fat uni!!  :smt003

Decided to try going out without my dive board...enjoyed not having to worry about it until I had my goodie bag full of abs and uni!!!   :smt013

It was too heavy to have tucked in my weight belt so I clipped it to my float line and dropped it to the bottom while I hunted around....the swim back with the full bag was not so fun!!
 :smt009 :smt005 :smt044 :smt044

Lesson learned...I like being able to throw my catch on the board and keep diving!!   :smt001

Ended up with 9 uni and 2 8 inch clickers....used all my tags, and really enjoyed my first full abalone season...feel like I have made a lot of progress this year and am looking forward to spearfishing this winter and getting better and learning more each time!!

My Dad and Robert and Sledge had a blast drinking in the rain and were all smiles when we came back in...cracked open an urchin right on the beach to share...love that stuff!!

On the way home stopped by Moylan's Brewery for some pints and burgers...yummy!!

The Feast was epic, epic, EPIC!! Uni served with urchin spine cocktail spears, ab sashimi, ad ceviche, ab steaks, seared Ling, braised MFPB, Tangy Mango Cilantro Mahi in Gewurtz wine sauce, and blackened Wahoo steaks!!!
 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

Think the MFPB and Mahi were the best/most interesting....the texture and flavor of the eel was off the charts!!

Great times with family and friends...good stuff!!
 :smt006
Sincerely,

Jim

Hell yeah Jim what a great report! There is something to be said about limiting out on an abalone card. You are a down mofo! The pics show some very proud people, proud to be alive! See you soon.

Ripping spread of food Jim. Man, that stuff needs to be on the food channel or somewhere else. From the sea to the table. Awesome! Nice fat abs!

Jim, you are having too much fun and too much good food in your belly.  Way to go get em this year bro!  It's nice to see your Dad chilling with you and not minding the cold and rain.

Good Times!  You've really put yourself into the diving this year, and the food prep on the back end is top notch.  What's really notable to me is that you're always a great friend and family man too.  WTG!   :smt001
