Chuck and I launched around 8:15 this morning into some pretty nice conditions.  We anchored up at the spot and started throwing ghost shrimp and salmon roe to the fishes.  About an hour later the tide from hell started.  Water was screaming past us.  I just cant imagine any fish finding bait in that current.  They do though, just not today they didn't.  We fished until 445 after I saw only 1 jumper and chuck had some small taps and we pulled anchor.  Just as soon as we started to get, I look to the left of chuck and see a monster sturgeon do a little dolphin jump.  Bastard.  He was coming up to taunt us and tell Chuck that those taps were him.  Definately a nice day to be on the water but I'm now starting to believe this to be a night time outgoing spot.  Well,,, that is all, no kind of excitement to report of other than two jumpers and alot of water movement.   JTF.. :smt011

Thanks for the report JTF... at least you got some recon out of it.  You saw jumpers so you know they're in there... just got to be there when they are feeding.

I find that on those big tides, you want to be there when the peak current starts to lay down... seems they often kick into feeding mode during that time.

Chuck... I was rooting for ya man!  You keep up the persistence and you'll hook into one soon.

Erik, thanks for your kind thoughts.   Although JTF and I didn't score again, I still had a great time, as I always do, when exploring a new area and with a good friend who really knows their stuff.  Thanks John!

The strong currents and steep drop-offs were the ultimate tests for any anchor system.  We just knew sturgeon were in the area, and as predicted, they started showing up and jumping just as the outgoing tide slowed down.  Too bad that was about the time we needed to split.

We'll get'em next time!

... and Rockhopper, you're absolutely right.  A bad day of fishing beats a good day at work everytime for me!

From Skyline looking down on the bay it looked great!  I figure it this way, good conditions + fishing = good day.  good conditions+fishing+ fish = great day!

Yeah, what Erik(KZreelrods) said makes really good sense.  I was really tired and beat yesterday when I wrote that report.  It was a great day on the water and we now know we can hit some spots further up in the delta and hold bottom.  I really want to go try a nighttime mission there Chuck.  Its doable, I just need some different booties first.  The scary thing there would be getting pulled through that pier at night.  Maybe we should do the bottom of the tide through the bottom of the income in the late afternoon/early evening.  I know alot of guys who have hooked up in that spot.  Its definately safer than doing the mothball fleet at night. :smt107   Oh well, its a thought anyways, thanks for the kind words Chuck, you are a really cool guy to go fishing with even though you need to slow the hell down on your prowler.  My freakin' legs were burning up after trying to keep up with you on my mirage. :smt088  JTF..
