Try to avoid dropping pots near the harbor entrance, there's alot of traffic coming through there right now and the pool noodle bouys aren't as visible as the standard crab bouy guys are used to spotting for.  We had one pop right in front of us as we were coming in today.

As a general FYI, the main traffic lane is between the harbor entrance and the #3 bouy.

Someone was telling me that if something like that happens an causes damage, the damaged boat can take your info to the coast guard an you will recieve a ticket. Not sure if thats true, anyone know? I heard this last year cause we had some of the same problem here (humboldt) people were setting pots in the mouth.

I've heard the same but have yet to hear a first hand account of someone actually getting fined or having their boat repairs reimbursed.  Tangling a prop is just a sucky situation to be in, especially near a jetty.

Art, thanks for that info :D I'll try to avoid this general area tonight when I drop my traps. I don't want to damage anyone's property, nor want to put myself in danger.

If you don't mind, would you or anyone else be kind enough to recommend where I should drop the traps at night for several hours?

The bouy is south of the entrance D.  If you just paddle east along the rockwall a little ways and work between there and the beach you'll be fine. Not sure how much boat traffic there'd be at night but it'd probably be helpful for you to have a light stick on your bouy.
