Just an FYI: If you plan on launching from HMB Kayak Company please do not to drive inside the dirt lot (officially a lot only for overflow parking only) to unload or load your kayak. Apparently, the Harbor Patrol guys will hassell you for this (the Guys at HMB kayak Co. could care less but the Harbor dudes are the law). They also don't like it when you park your vehicle at any red zone - again, to unload and load your kayak.

My advise is to simply park on the upper lot and wheel your kayak to and from the beach launch.

There are inconsistencies with the Harbor guys too because some of 'em turn a blind eye but I'm just letting you guys know just to avoid the hassell.

I tried confirming this with the Top Dude Harbor Master today but the office was locked when I dropped by. Will try again tomorrow.

Yeah I got the run around...the guy that was at the gate when I showed said "Yeah not problem" 10 min into unloading some other douche came and said MOVE. I said oh the other guy said it was OK but let me unload and I will move. He stated to yell NOW. you have been here for 10 min already. I just ignored him and finished unloading. When I got back (after re parking) he came over and said sorry "its just crazy here today"

hard to take him seriously in his short green 'boy scout shorts'

thanks for the heads up mooch.....

I launched there Friday and the harbor patrol said the same thing, but a very different experience.
He was very soft spoken and easy going.  Instead of giving me a stern warning, he started asking us how we did, and was very encouraging about the slow crab day.  Then he started talking to my son asking whether he enjoyed the day out OTW.  Towards the end of the conversation, He told me not to do it next time in a very nice way.

Mooch, thanks for the heads-up :) I don't want to cause any trouble, nor future problems for our fellow kayakers at HMB.

Another option is to use the green curb right by HMBK to unload then move your car. Nobody ever parks there, so that's where I park when I want to jawbone with those guys. There's probably a 20 minute rule, but there is so much green curb around there that isn't used, I don't think that HM guys ever look.

Another reason to be nice to these guys is they're highly simpatico and I believe at least one of them has a track record in fishing-related issues

There's also a ton of parking there and gotta love those wheeleez
