My Toshiba Qosmio died a while back too. I got it for gaming at the time. Sounded like a server when it was running too. I'll never buy a Toshiba again.

Dell, Asus, Leveno and Mac are all solid from my exp. If you want that gaming type setup though I'd look at the Dell XPS or and Alienware http://www.alienware.com/

If you go PC get a top rated anti virus-firewall-malware program like Viper: http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/home-home-office/vipre/

Mac rocks for ease of use, stability, and built in apps for photo and video. Based on unix OS. The lasted Windows 7 rules too though. So its a tuff call. If your a unix freak you can do so much on the Mac its not even funny.

Asus here as well from Best buy.  Their top of the line asus.  I game with it so the lower end units wouldn't do.  My last laptop was an Ailenware and it still works fine, but the old stuff (Pentium 4 CPU) simply can't run todays games.
Or my wifes game WOW, so I got to get a new laptop while she visited me in Oct. (So she could play) heheheh...

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Thought I would up date my Adventures in High Tech world since my Crash...

After lots of review reading and contrast and compare, I went back to Toshiba.. Satellite...  Love the Mac, but..
Basically $2500 bucks for the Mac 15 with the same stuff as the Toshiba at $1050, with 3 to 4 year warranty...

Interesting was I bought the Toshiba at Office Depot... I was going to buy at Costco, Great Return Policy of 90 days, and 2 year manufactures warranty, but, they did not have the i5 Pentium or the lighted keyboard, 470 hd and 500GB and was basically the same price at Office Depot for more computer, so I pulled the trigger...

I still was not sure about this, it felt very "plasticity" and no where near the feel of my 11lb Qosmio... I looked closely at the return policy as the salesman at Office Depot ( OD ) said I have 14 days to return...

well 14 days if you don't take it out of the box... :smt012 then it's exchange....  arrg...  Ok.. go talk to them anyway,,,  it is what it is.. and then remember i have bought a very nice computer at a very reasonable price and decided that I was not going to spend a ton of money on something that was bound to break or become obsolete in a few years anyway...

Then I look at their ad for the week at OD.... My computer is $100 less and they are now offering a 4 year warranty with purchase of 3 year.. well there ya go, got the upgrade there..  and then I need a printer fax all in one..  picked up the HP 8500a,  with turn in of older printer fax...$50 credit.. $150... Ya...!

still got stooped into buying the $50 2 year warranty with " Needed " newer printer cable for high speed.. oh well, still a good price on the printer that went into immediate use at home...

Great printer and Great Buy...  now the salesman I had been working with asked me about my broken computer...

I tell him that I took it to the Geek Squad, and they 2 weeks later, tell me I need a new mother board, maybe after that a CPU, video card and who Knows, but the Mother Board is going to start at $650..

That is when I had it sent back.. " Well, he says, the most it will cost you here is $299, shipping, tax, everything, unless it needs a new LCD screen, then that will be another $300...

Screw it, what the Hell, I pay $299, and send it off, fingers crossed...

well, got it back!!!! New Mother board, and they replaced the screen for free... just waived the fee!!!

I'm now very happy to get my computer back and all the stuff for HOW.. and I'm going to get my external storage ASAFP!!!!

It is still ( My Qosmio ) operating like it has awakened from a coma and some things just are not working yet like Netfix.. freezes the poor thing...

One Question remains...

How the Hell can Office Depot fix the whole mother board, labor, shipping tax for $300, when Best Buy wants $650, just for the board, and then they are going to charge more more more????

I'm wondering if there are Good mother boards, or Bad???

Has Office Depot put cut rate parts in my machine?  It appears to be working well and just needs updates, I hope...

anyway,  just wanted to update my experience and to help those who might be out there wading your way through the computer madness ...

If my computer comes back to full life, I got a Hell of deal from Office Depot on everything...

anymore input on this is extremely helpful and Happy Holidays to all

I have owned or used at work: Mac's, Dell's (hate them), IBM (Pass), HP (Motherboard and HArd drive went out seperately), Currently I have a year old Toshiba and I have been happy with it.  I think the Mac's are over rated.  they have their own problems, and I was no fan of the way their OS worked.  I think they are great for some things but not as good for others, of course that was a few years ago.
