So I have seen people out yaking wearing fishing waders. I can see how that would help keep ya dry. But seems kinda dangerous if you were to tip. Anybody got any experience with wearing waders on the yak?

I havent worn them in a kayak but I know there are some who do.   Jim Sammons put out this video on the subject that is kind of interesting.

If you have to ask don't

I use wader for lake fishing but in ocean or bay I wear wet or dry suit.

Search function, then if you have any additional insight or specific questions feel free to ask.....just be aware that it always boils down to personal preferrence, its your life.

The reason folks use waders is because they are cheap, and most of us fishermen already have a set.

No kayak outfitter sells waders.  There is a reason.

The Tempest pants that a lot of us wear are just waders with a velcro belt

I would never wear waders on the ocean. I have seen people off trinidad in waders an remember thinking it seemed like a bad idea. I asked this question because recently a person i know who does not yak but fishes asked why i did'nt wear waders on my yak instead of a wetsuit. I told them beacuse of the drowning issue, I then got to wondering myself as i have heard the wader in deep water argument for years.

Hypothermia is a greater concern than drowning.

for sure. The biggest lesson i learned years back when i started yaking was about hypothermia. It was rough an drizzly so i decided to just wear my rain suit instead of my wetsuit. I took out my SINK ( last one i ever owned) an promply got rolled, was in water for 20 minutes. By the time i got out of the water i was so cold i actually felt warm. That was the last time i ever yaked the ocean without my wetsuit on

You can wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing! Ive seen crazy ass people yak in Jeans or Board shorts. :smt003.....Ive yaked with waders on calm oceans and it was great. Ive yaked lakes with waders and it was too hot!..... I guess what im getting at is "It depends on the situation." :smt001

* I use waders in small bodies of water...where I'm confident that I can easily swim to shore if I had to.

That'd make for one hell of a swimsuit

If I saw a guy like that roll into the ocean I'm not sure I'd be in much of a hurry to help him out

Maybe shadow him and give him the pep talk while he was dogpaddling home

he was with another dude...we laughed all day that it was 'broke back yak'
