I am looking for info for some easy fresh water fishing. I have a SIK that I plan to use for now. Also my father is considering getting a SOT kayak for fishing. He is 82 so I want to keep it simple and safe for him. He is considering something with a trolling motor. We live in the Napa Solano area. Can anyone suggest some good launching locations that are close to good fishing holes? Suggestions for still water fishing that doesn't require lots of paddling? Also how about ideas on using a SIK for fishing. Thanks Ken

I've seen some nice trout come out of Lake Solano, nice launch ramp and park.

Water can be pretty darn cold, since it comes out from the bottom of Berryesa.

I can't quite remember the name of the lake, but if you drive up to Rutherford and head east on the highway there's a nice lake with an easy launch. There's good trout fishing, smallmouth, catfish, and large mouth in there. i've never heard of any monsters coming out of the lake, but it would be a good local place to get started.

Edit: The lake is called Lake Hennessey, and the highway is Hwy 128. There are several turnouts for shore fishing, and then there's a parking lot on the east end of the lake with a nice gentle launch ramp.

Searching is half the fun: life is much more manageable when thought of as a scavenger hunt as opposed to a surprise party. -Jimmy Buffett

I've always wondered about those Sacramento Perch in Pena Adobe (Lagoon Valley), a small native fish not too abundant in our area anymore.

A friend used to go there to learn to windsurf, it's a smallish lake.

Post a hook up if you go there.

My wife tried kayaking there a while back and the lake is full of plant life. I don't know if it improves a different times of the year.

A couple good ideas. I notice that there is very little on trout and bass in the forum. Am I missing it or is everyone just happier in saltwater? Any ideas on good info for fishing the local freshwater? Ken
