When Juan took one of the top spots in last years AOTY, he won a custom rod from yours truly.  Finally had the chance to build it.

Turned out to be one of those rods that I wish I could keep... I guess that's why I put Juan's "handle" (Mako 1) on it... so I'd be forced to set 'er free.

Hope you enjoy it Juan... sorry I couldn't get it to you earlier.

Probably will be my last build for a while... starting an MBA program next week that I expect will severely impact my spare time for the next 18 months.

Good golly, she is a beauty!  :smt007

Best of luck in your MBA program.  Hopefully you'll still be able to get on the water every now and again for sanity's sake.

WOOOOOW :smt007 :smt007 :smt007  I'd almost be afraid to use one like that. :smt010 :smt010 :smt010  Probably would double tether it to the yak!

Nah!  They always look better with a few battle scars... it's just a fishing rod after all.

KZ, you out did yourself again! Juan is going to love it!

HT and I are both recipients of Erik's masterpieces. Functional artwork is what I am calling them. I too was afraid to take it out on the kayak but Patrick has a rule...no relics. My prize has landed some beautiful fish including halibut, sturgeon, yellowtail and wsb. During one wsb hit my ram tube base snapped off and the rod shot straight into the water but thanks to the leash it was saved....so was the fish.

Congratulations again Juan as that fishing rod is loaded with great fishing karma!
