I got the 10 AA battery holder with the 2 posts that look like a 9V battery on it. I was soldering the wires to the posts and it melted the plastic around the posts and they fell through the plastic. Hopefully the JB Quick ( weld ) will fix it in a pinch.
My question is how do you solder the wires without heating up the plastic?

this might be too late :
Mine looks the same as a 9 volt connection, but Radio Shack, and probably others, has a fitting that snaps on to those terminals with two short wires attached.
Snap it on, solder wires as usual.

It can be done, you just need to be careful.  Tin both components and then fuse them.
