Yesterday I had a few moments to think, and I realised the absurdity of how some concepts start out as one thing, but then get perverted into something completely opposite of the original intent.

Farmers' Markets.
Originally, this was a means for farmers to sell their produce. The overhead was less so they charged less. You got decent product for a low price. On the contrary, in places like SF and Marin, the "Farmers" market has become a place for pent up arm candy housewives to go and pay a substantial premium in order to buy the perceived illusion of "Simpler Life". Half the stuff these "Markets" offer now is not even edible, things like natural face creams and other trinkets and beads.

Toll Lanes.
Originally, you could use any lane. This gave no lane any advantage, but allowed for even spacing during congested periods. Then they set the fast lane as a commute lane during rush hour. This created more congestion in the remaining lanes, but was done to prompt people to start ride-sharing and car-pooling to remove cars from the road. Now they are selling admission back onto the fast lanes. Are we supposed to understand this as an indication that the Car-Pool lane concept is a failure (which it really was)? I mean they are basically going back to how it was before the car-pool lanes were made, they are now only charging people for it. This is like a parent giving a kid a bike and saying have fun, then taking it away and saying I will tell you when you can use it, then saying you can use it whenever you want but you have to pay me to do so? Didn't we already pay for these roads through taxes?

So both of these are examples of a concept that sprang up to fill one need, then after the years slowly got moulded and perverted into something that is completely different if not opposite of the original intent.

Go figure.

I'm waaaay ahead when it comes to fishing. The secret is not to compare it to your grocery bill, but to potential psychiatrist bills instead. It keeps me (relatively) sane...
