I took the general design from Sean White’s build and modified  going with all stainless steel fully Tig welded . I added SS S- hooks and cutting them to allow for eyelets both before and after the pulley. I double up the stainless and welded it together at the top two holes of the rudder mount to have it seat completely flush with the plastic. I poured another 10lbs + anchor with an SS eye bolt welded closed. The anchor eye bolt when pulled completely tight mates perfectly in the S-hook eyelet and keeps it from swaying during paddling. I tried it out tonight on the new yak with a quick paddle before loading up with the fishing gear. The first drop in the drift it caught and tracked completely strait.  Next up on the American with the new yak Steelhead & Salmon!

Just out for a paddle and to make sure there wasn't any problems with the anchor set up prior to loading the boat up with the fishing gear. I'll probably be out later this week or weekend fishing. Upper sunrise there was 5 guys fishing the lower drift and three people at the upper.

I have to say that you did a fabulous job! Not only does it look clean, but it seems to work well :D Please let us know how your outing goes. I may look into creating one in the future, with your permission of course :) Thanks for sharing your work, your skills do shine!

It worked great and tracked straight. The main reason for going stainless was the large surface contact area with the plastic and the potential for rusting between the two even if it was painted.

As far as permission....I didn' t create the wheel I just modified it, hence the original Trident design concept came from Sean, so build away! Total cost to build the bracket just shy of $30.00 for everything.

Did you do the welding yourself? Powder coated steel would work also for those who cant tig. Its a great set-up that Sean kind of cooked up. I had seen similar before. Also you could use aluminum stock, drill and tap using SS bolts to put the bracketing together. Its handy to have some flat areas already provided thats for sure. I made one for a caper and it was a real test. Looks clean and slick. Very soothing to look at.
