Seems a little pricey, especially if you happen to drift over structure and lose it.  :smt009

I want to try the DIY route too and it looks like the most important part is the blinking light, since we use live/dead fish or squid most of the time and that should offer plenty of scent.  I'll give it a try by adding a glow in the dark stick if I can't find a waterproof light the next time I target butts or lings.

The ultimate test is if someone were to use the fully rigged system and be able to catch one at ARW.  :smt003

Ain't nothing new about it.  Anglers have been using glowing squid for pacific butts for a long time now.

What are you talking about allen, baited hoochie on a spreader....never heard of it before  :smt003

If you don't have time to twist up a spreader bar you can use a 3-way or cross lock swivel and achieve a similar effect.  You can also add multiple hoochies, glow sticks, long plugs etc....  This guy didn't invent the wheel.

Thanks for sharing the site Casey. The glow squid does looks very appealing. I wonder if they also work for the WSB as well.

I have a couple and have tried them several times for lings and butts no hookups yet, the standard hook that's on it is mega so need to tone it down for our southern needs, you also need the weight or spreader bar cuz it floats, looks really good in the water, just not sure if there is enough big fish i n cali to take it!

Stienstra:  The plastic contraption....looked like nothing I've ever seen, maybe something you'd put on your Christmas tree.

That's been done too. Halibut love Xmas ornaments.  :smt003

I'm thinking about cutting back on the whole thing. IE:  Purchasing quality glow paint and using it on a metal jig. Overcast conditions in 60-70 fow and it is dark down there. Light that baby up with a flashlight and blind some hali's .  I wonder about using a whole bunch of stuff tho. What you might call the Las Vegas effect. Picture Las Vegas with 1/3 as many lights and would there be as many people there and would they gamble as much. Maybe add a painted dodger  and sinker or something at times.

I find Pacific Halibut much more amenable to "cocktails".  They'll eat anything down there so light it, scent it up, jig it hard ... bring them running.  However, I think some of the Pacific Halibut cocktails will just scare CA Halibut away.

  Now you tell me.

Ca. Hali got sophistication, discernment,  and taste.

I'm going to try it anyway.
