Hi Dave.  I just talked to HobieDave.  We plan to launch at 1st Street at 7:00 on Tuesday (9/7).  It was this time last year when I caught and released that incredible Salmon trolling a rattle trap for Stripers.

I hope we can utilize our collective fishing prowless to score from a yak what shore casters are able to do from a rock on the jetty. I think a Blue Fox spinner is part of the arsenal, casting  near the shoreline may be per tinate. My personal early kayak fishing adventures, trowling for King Salmon in this area proved to be uneventful. Anybody out there with the answers? I've heard words like 'lockjaw', 'off the bite' and 'impulse strikes' anybody able to put an effective 'Yak' fishing game plan gets kudos and a brew from me and the crew. dave...

You guys must have been reading my mind. I've been waiting....and waiting...and waiting for this opener. And I've been one of those guys throwing spinners from the rocks, and have caught a few fish doing that. But, I have not tried the troll and am dying to give it a shot. Personally I think I'm going with an arsenal and since I live so close, going to try and go several times in the next couple of weeks, using a different technique each time. From plug cut bait to hoochies to spinners, flat fish, hopkins spoons, you name it. Give them all their time in the water.
And just to see the looks on those shorebound guys will be priceless. We will triumph!!!
Mean, aren't I?

Ok, so I thought the Blue Fox was a famous bar in Tijuana in the 70s and 80s :smt013.  I had no idea what a Blue Fox Spinner might be??  Being a Socal transplant has its disadvantages when it comes to Salmon fishing. Fortunately the guys at Sports Chalet in Pleasanton knew what I was looking for and didn't direct me to the place south of the border.  I am now armed with three of the little suckers and ready to launch at 1st street in the morning.  Hopefully the Salmon are more familiar with the "Blue Fox" than me.

I couldn't stand the wait, so I went on a little scouting trip this afternoon. Cast from shore for about two hours, with about forty others. Caught nothing. Saw nothing caught. I did hear of one twenty pounder being taken in the morning. I think I'll wait a week to see if the fish arrive in larger numbers before I go after them with a vengance. Good luck guys. I'll be waiting for a report. Hope I'm wrong, for your sakes.

just a friendly reminder to all..make sure you switch off the treble hooks and put on a single barbless hook.

I had to hacksaw off my hooks and crimp on a single hook..then remember to bend down the barb.
