With all these reports of WSB, I'm looking to see if I can get lucky in catching one myself :) I wish I can go out this weekend with many of you, but weekends are difficult for me. Still I hope that all of you who plan to go out this weekend will able to land some beauties.

For those that have to work weekends, I'm looking to go out either Monday or Tuesday, possibly both days :P If anyone is interested in joining please lemme know; company is always appreciated!! :)

Daniel:

Can't make those dates... we are moving to Felton on 9/1.  Should be an easy move, so I'll be up for some weekday dawn patrols later in September.

Lets hook up sometime.

Howard, thanks for your response my brother :) Sorry that you can't make it, but definitely understandable with your priorities. I hope that your move-in goes smoothly.

I will definitely keep you posted on my other outings. Look forward to fishing with you Howard!! :D

I might be up for making a run down on Tuesday. Wait to hear if there are some good reports this weekend. I only hit the very tail end last time at HMB.  :smt013 I've only fished down there one time, and that was right from MBK down to the hotels during one of Allen's tournys. Is there another place to launch closer if they are way south? Any intel would be greatly appreciated.

Jonesz, hope that you can make it out on Tuesday with me and anyone else willing to go out :) As for launching closer to the hotel, I have not attempted to do so with a kayak; all of my launches have been out of MBK. Main reason is the surf around Seaside/Marina can be challenging to paddle through, which I have done many times with surfing.

I'll let others chime in on their experience.

Hope to see you and others out there!! :D

Have some weights aboard 3/4oz or more to keep your flylined squid down at 10ft. Some of the boats that I saw filling their coolers with limits yesterday were using floats like balloon or foam bobbers to keep their squid at 10ft. I tried plastic water bottles and it worked for one hookup.....but the line broke  :smt011 possibly due to bird or seal damage before I added weight when the wind came up and the drift caused my bait to float up and be attacked.....repeatedly. When paddling back up after a drift do not drag your bait.....a gull or seal will be on it. A lot of fish were caught yesterday on pbs so congrats to Ken for representin the yaks with his fish. jim

Saltydog, thanks for that info brother!! :D I was planning to bring some egg sinkers from 1/4oz-1oz to keep my bait below surface, but now I will plan to bring some bobbers/floats as you suggested.

I actually had a friend who went out on his personal boat this morning and was able to land a beauty. I'll be asking him for his advice as well. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

And yes, BIG CONGRATS to Ken for representing the yakkers. WTG!! :D

I fished MBK for WSB but was SOL... and way bummed.

Monday got on the water quite early, picturing an early bite at grey light, and a big smile coming home.

Was not to be today; gorgeous conditions saw something like twenty or more PBs and a half dozen yaks all apparently on a snipe hunt. I didn't see anyone hook up, and boats scattered in all directions by mid morning, with no fishy chatter on the radio. There are still some squid around, but not in massive schools.

Wish I could tell a better tale, but there you have it.

Best,

Paul

Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

i was out there today and it was slow in the morning .i saw a few hookups around 9-10am .we were fishing in front of the hotel at around 130 feet of water .then around 1230 i noticed the bite picked back up this time. i saw multiple hookups.every one had drifted to the left at around the same depth. which made it a longer paddle back but the conditions were very nice.my buddy hooked a nice one today but i didnt .if i can go out tomorrow ill be there.the earlier start the better i think. .hopefully they will still be there,i do notice its gotten a little slower every day.but then again ive been off the water by 1ish .so i dont know how the afternoon bite has been.the weather is sweet so go get em
