Got a call from a friend late Monday and asked me if I want to go on a fishing trip to help them tagging the fish in HMB.  Can't say no to a free fishing trip on the Hulicat so I said "Yes".  We arrived Point Pillar Harbor around 5:30am and the boat departed at 6am.  They had permission to fish inside the MLP zone south of Pigeon Point.  We caught various RF's (90% of them were Gophers) and some nice Lings but no Cabie at all.   There're 12 anglers and the total number of fish caught for the day was 159.  The weather was nice in early morning but the wind picked up around 11am and the drift was too fast so it's hard to keep your bait on the bottom.  Here are some pictures of the trip...

Looks like a nice day OTW!  I wished I could have gone, but I'm stuck in front my computer at work all day.

On the way back, we saw a grass fire close to the light house which I heard on radio later that they closed HW1 due to that fire.  Here are a few more pictures of the trip.  If any of you interested on this trip, contact Captain Tom of the Hulicat.  I think they're doing another trip this Friday and a few more in September.

That's my biggest Verm of the day!  I landed more than a dozen and lost many since we're using barbless hooks.

sonny, i saw a picture of you on another website holding a rock and saying you got to keep it.  how did you cook the rock?

this was one of those research trips right?  did you feel the fish were any larger or more abundant than in other places you've fished?

Ha...ha...ha  :smt044  At the end of the trip. They asked everyone to guess the total number of the fish we caught for the day and my guess was 155 which was the closest to 159 fish caught.  I won the best guess contest and the "rock" was my prize  :smt003  I brought it home but still searching for the recipe to cook it the proper way :smt044

The fish we caught there (inside the MLP zone) were mostly medium size Gophers.  I caught the biggest Verm there which was about 20".
