Met up with a lot of guys yesterday at the for tto find FAC water, and high fog.  All the makings of a great day on the water.  BigGabe, his son Ryan, and I got on the water around 7:30.  Ryan was the first to hook up, pretty good for the first time on the water fishing the ocean in a kayak!  He caught a nice gopher.  Little did we know, it was going to be like that all day.  It was gopher city, with blacks in between.  Gabe and I got into some canaries, but all released and swam away.  I managed a china late in the day to add some variety to my stringer.  the tally was 7 fish kept for me, Gabe kept a limit, and Ryan kept 3.  Most of which were small.  Gabe managed an underling, and a few other guys got underlings too.  A few greenlings were caught, and a few cabbies also were boated.  The wind blew us off the water around 2.  The lack of big fish did not damper the great time we had out on the water.

I drove to the parking lot a little after six and didn't see anyone there...wussies!
And where are the pix????  :smt044
It was one of the calmest days I have seen so far this year.
While I was ab diving I saw a LOT of fish. China, cab, greeney, gopher, not to mention juvenile rockfish by the thousands. It is probably why the bite wasn't WFO.

Adam and I came together no one in the parking lot at six so we drove down to ocean cove and woke up Elongatus and Tigerfish both sound asleep at 630 . hit the water around 7 first drop 23.5 ling , well that set the standard for the day got 4 underlings all on my super secret 9" swimm bait that I showed every one :smt003
One fish after another released all first thing then bite died around 10 for me kept trying for my big ling for nada. finally went to the kelp forest to fill a quick limit in 30 min including aoty upgrade 16 green ling. Hell of a paddle back even had to pull scupper plugs to let the water off every other wave came over the top .Caught well over 30 fish . Had a great time with every one . Thanks again Adam ( Auburn trout dude) for car pooling . Really enjoyed your company

WTG guys.
I was at the Fort yesterday (8/17), and the conditions were great until 9am, then the wind and mixed swells made it difficult to catch, but the fishing was very enjoyable.  Caught a vermillion and 2 gophers before the wind picked up.  After that, a couple of coppers and small RF that were released.

Allan/Hightide got some RF and a greenling, and Pisciform/Aaron caught/released RF I believe.

Sorry for the late post. I've been busy and haven't had much time online. When I have been it was to read about Adam's encounter. That's consumed my thoughts quite a bit since then.

Thanks Rich,

Ryan and I had a great time. I'm glad he caught fish his first time out and that the ocean cooperated. After his last outing on the ocean I wasn't sure what he would do if he got sick again. He didn't care one bit that all 3 were gophers. He was showing them off to the tourists on the beach.

Each time I'm out there on the ocean I learn something. This time I learned something from pretty much everyone there. It was great. Thanks guys.

I need to get a waterproof camera for the boat. I realized I have no pics from my son's first fish in the ocean, from a yak or otherwise.

Great hookup and followup reporting (except for the lack of pics!   :smt002).  Glad you guys got OTW together and had a blast - way cool that your son got his first fish on the ocean, Gabe.
