Yo,

I have had an angling slump.  I don't know what it is, but my motivation had been in the dumper.  Probably that whole no job real life reality thing.

Well, I'm turning a new leaf and getting back my mojo.

I'm sick of bumming and am ready to get busy in life and have more fun again.

That said, I am going to participate here a bit more to regain my bearings and fish with you folk.

Well Chris, I for one would be very happy to see you on the beach some time REALLY soon.  All that good info you gave me and everybody on perching last year has really paid off.  I remember that first time after perch where I met you just south of the harbor...  I was fishing there just a few weeks ago and wondering what happened to you.

Anyway, the perch are back in force and I'm ready to go get a few.  Now if only the weather and baby will cooperate we'll be in business!

Here's a recent one... caught off of New Brighton.  I was looking through my photos for a picture of that one with the HUGE bite out of its side we caught that first day.

Sometimes getting out of the house and doing something helps the depressed mood.

Do get better.

Mol,

What kind of job you looking for?  Perhaps someone here has some leads.  I know this is not fishing related ...

I'm a PhD biochemist/molecular biologist with experience in drug discovery and HTS.

Anything that pays the bills would be fine at this point.

Part of my bumming has been the prospect of being "under" employed after all the long hard years in school, but you gotta pay the bills....

Good luck on the job hunt, Molbasser.  By coincidence, my dad got his PhD in molecular biology- from Washington U. in St. Louis, MO. ('72)

He did his postdoc. at the UW in Seattle, and took his first (and only) commercial job at what is now Cetus, in Emeryville. While his first years were lean, he retired comfortably, just a few years ago.

As I recall, the Bay area is tops for the biotech industries, but Seattle is close behind. The fishing is a little different up here- hardly anyone bothers to fish for bass!

I was just teasing you Molbasser, there's a lot of Ph.D's in my immediate circle
of family and friends. I do see cases where smart people float through life,
it's almost too easy for them and then when they get their first real setback,
they aren't ready for it, it comes as such a shock. Like a pail of cold water in their
face. And the later in life that shock comes, the harder it is to take.

My own instinct is to slap them around and make them come to their senses,
not be all nice and comforting.  :smt003. Hang in there, buck up, you'll do
well I'm sure.

Crappie bite eh?

I'd love to, but man it is a long drive....I may try to find the crappie in the local lakes.  Doesn't seem like people target them much in the bay area.

Right now I gotta rig up for dinos next weekend....

Thanks for the encouragement folks, I'm ok.  PITA but I'll deal.
