Well no Dino Love :smt009 But that was because we couldn't hardly keep the Strippers off the line. I believe only Taylor  and myself are the only ones that showed. I got rewarded with a 27" & 23' strippers. Taylor brought a few in but they keep being just under sized even though we where both using the exact same thing right down to the hook size. when I went to pay the guys at the club house for the launch they took the time to tell me how crazy we all are (us yakers that is).I  pointed out that we had caught some fish,

well that's good but your all Still crazy.  :headbang:    So we got that settled

Taylor they only wanted $5 for the two of us so it evened out after all.

Keep Fishing and good luck all,             Gowen out.

Hi,

I heard that tackle setup or rigging for stripers is identical to dino. Could you share what your guys are using?

Good job Gowen... so I assume the weather held out for you.  Glad you guys could get out there.  Keep at it and you'll be rewarded. They're in there.

The striper bite is always nice side action... occasionally you can get a few big stripers coming through there as well.  I've caught them as large as 34" when sturgeon fishing in the flats.

I think last year when Josh came in with his 60#'er we established that the guys in the bar think we're crazy but cool.  That works I guess.

So did you fish the entire outgoing tide?

Congrats... on the nice stripers, Gowen.  Glad you and Tim got a chance to go to Buck's.  Neat place isn't it?  Did you get a chance to see the NCKA group photo on the back wall?

Sorry, I had to bail on you guys yesterday.  I needed to be back early, so I decided to fish closer to home.  I met JTF and his buddy Red at the Oakland Airport.  We didn't do much better.  We scored a bunch of small leopard sharks and JTF landed a big batray.

eyeatbay I was using a 6/0 hook on a slide egg sinker #4 with 5' feet of leader and a stop at 14" and swivel connecting to the main line.
If I was to go out again i would probable use that slide anchor set-up just because the egg sinks into the mud and I believe it might create some drag on the bait, but sense I allready had the other ridged up that's what I went with and I still got a lot of bight.

Yes KzReelRods we fished the whole out going tide and the weather was perfect. We did find out why you want to launch at Bucks Landing and that's because when the tide is all the way out there is mud flats where their was water, a whole lot of mud flats we paddle 3.5 miles out 5 miles back because we found we had to go down to a very small Chanel that got us back to Buck's landing. So thoughts fishing maps pay off after all. Actually Taylor figured out what we had to do to get back but it was nice to see the map confermed it. The last mile till we hit the channel was only 4" deep we where dragging bottom with the Yak's for a mile  :smt012 It was the water version of the death march but we made it. :smt001

CuckE sorry we missed you I understand it is a long ways to go. I sure we will hook up soon, I look forward to it.
that's funny you mentioned the NorCal picture the guy at the bar said you've got to check these guy's out showed me the picture and told me how these guys brought in all these fish I think they're very impressed with the idea that we go out in are yaks, CRAZY yes, but impressed too. I told him I'm one of you.  :smt003

KzReelRods thanks for the encouragement  :smt001

Oh yeah... I remember the death march.  The first time a group of us launched from Buck's we decided to stay out until about an hour before sunset.  We were all pretty nerve wracked skimming over those mud flats in 6 inches of water as the sun was going down, but alas we found the channel eventually.

If you make a line from the southern most duck blind to the shore it's generally a good line to take to the channel if the tide is all the way out.

On tides like next Saturdays, with the low tide after sunset, it's probably easier to launch at China Camp and paddle up during the high tide, then ride the outgoing back to China Camp before it goes negative.  That way you don't have to paddle against the current in Gallinas Creek when the tide is still moving out.  You will be in for a mud fest though if you try to haul out at China Camp during even the slightest minus tide.

As for rigging, whatever setup you use, make sure it holds your bait to the bottom.  During peak tide movement that could mean 8 oz pyramid sinkers plus a 1/2 oz rubber core weight near the end of your rig.  I do believe that keeping that bait on the bottom makes a difference.  Although I know they've caught sturgeon on hi-lo rigs at McNear's pier.  So some may differ with me on that point, but I stick with what has proven to work repeatedly for me.

Can't wait to shake this cold and get out there again.
