I'm guilty of safety negligence, being out there alone and taking a dunk to boot, but that was before a member told me about this sight, I now have a new perspective.  Like to believe they didn't know better and hopefully have learned a valuable lesson, thanks to you. On the lighter side...."What were you thinking?" and "with freinds like that who needs enemies?" come to mind.

Jim,
Next time I come down and visit my daughter in Oxnard I will bring you a beer.  Maybe we can paddle in SB.  Love that Stearns pier.

Mr. "I'm going in" sounds like a real douche.  If he didn't want to be responsible for a newb's rescue, shouldn't have brought him out.  Isn't that one reason why any/all of us are reluctant to go out with newbs?  You have to look out for your party.

Thumbs up on the assist, Jim.  That newb's day could have taken a REAL turn

I'm honestly surprised this doesn't happen to us more often. Maybe I'm just a newbie-magnet but it's happened to me like 5X. With 4 of those being out of MBK/Monterey. The area near Stearns Wharf is kinda similar, in regards to newbies & tourists.
The best was when 2 guys in a tandem rammed into my yak while my head was down, tying a knot by the CG jetty...I thought it was one of my Ahull buddies, so without even looking I just yelled, "Watchout you f'n retard!" right as I turned around to see some poor tourist fall off SPLASH, then his buddy fell off the other side...right onto my tankwell! It was really hard to contain my laughter, but they didn't speak Engrish anyways. I directed 1 guy how to reboard then helped the other guy climb back on. Giggling the whole time. It still makes me laugh when I think about it.
