Still fishing for my first kayak and am considering this one.  Here are some details http://www.kayakfishingsupplies.com/servlet/the-197/Malibu-kayak-tandem-pro/Detail

Reviews say the Malibu Pro2 Tandem is good for fishing and diving.  It also has many peripheral features I really like: Seats 2 (so I can take my kid paddling in the bay), lightweight (only 60 lbs), length is just right for me (13'), and relatively inexpensive (Fishing/Diving package $999).  Seems pretty perfect for me but I still hope to get some first hand feedback.

Other than your opinions about it, one specific question I have is, if only one person is riding it IN THE OCEAN, with the weight farther back compared to solo kayaks, how does this affect the performance?  Thank you.

I have a buddy who has one but rarely uses it.

But from what I've seen in the past (I worked in a kayak shop for several years) is that people who buy tandems seem to assume that they will always have someone to paddle with. This is where I do my sales pitch and try to let the customer know that buying a tandem that can convert into a single paddle kayak would be a better choice...for example, the Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 or the Wilderness System Tarpon 130T.  Look 'em up and test paddle them before you decide on a fixed tandem kayak.

Good luck and welcome to the madness!
