Checkout leaderfins on the internet. Their prices are exceptional. I've talked to a couple of people that have used them including a competetive freediver and both people gave them thumbs up. The company is in England so shipping takes a while but they use paypal and are legit.

I've heard of them.  They're one of the leading manufactures of Mono-fin.  A little pricey though!  Check out their website below:

What was it that the people you asked really liked about them?

They just said they were good fins. You can buy the entire fin or just the blades. They are very affordable. I bought a pair of carbon blades and a pair of glass blades. Carbon blades in the US are usually 350-450 dollars for 1 pair.

I paid 252 dollars for 1 pair of carbon and 1 pair of glass and that includes shipping. I should have them in a couple of weeks.

Short fins are super cheap and easy to find used on craigs.  Problem is most are open heel scuba fins and they don't have the same power transfer as a full foot fin. You'd also need to tape up the straps cause they'll catch in the kelp. They'll get the job done though....maybe not very good but they work. I'll double check when I get home but I'm pretty sure I have a pair laying around somewhere that you can have.

Long blades make a huge difference...not even in the same league.

Thanks for the info Art and maybe the hook up, problem is i have a huge ass foot! 13

So do they long fins work well in all depths and just skimming the surface too?

Ive been renting, some Mares, and I have got caught on the kelp once or twice...

So with the full foot fins, is there room in the foot pocket for a bootie? and do you have any issues with them staying on your foot?

Thanks  guys!!

Size 13....if your toes are webbed sounds like you'd be good to go without fins  :smt003

As far as depth is concerned, its easier to poke around the shallows and tidepools with short fins but I've dove my long fins into about 5-6' while ab diving with no real issues.  No issue with surface swimming either, you're actually gonna swim faster due to the added propulsion of the longer fin.

Fin sizing isn't an exact science, the size range usually encompasses about 3-4 foot sizes and you can adjust the thickness of your booty to adjust for comfort/fit, you just don't want them to be tight.  Mine actually fit a bit loose and I wear a fin keeper that keeps them comfotably snug.  Depending on the foot pocket and roominess in the pocket you might need to buy a booty instead of a typical soled scuba boot.

I used the leader fins in Picasso pockets in the ocean and pool and they worked great.
