I'm gettin' old and my eyes are going south on me, so I need a new dive mask with my bifocal prescription in it.  Have any of you guys had to do the same, and could you recommend a good place to buy the mask from.  I will be spending 3 weeks on Roatan, Honduras in Sept/Oct and plan on a lot of diving and snorkeling and don't want to miss any buried treasure cuz of my bad eyes!

Thanks,

Jody

Back when I was SCUBA dive more often, I had my prescription dive mask made by these guys.  I recalled paying around $50.  Not sure how much they charge nowaday.

Talk to Matt or Vince at Aquan Sports (650) 593.6060 - tell 'em Mooch sent ya :smt006

THere are several models of masks that you can fit first before you have the lenses replaced. Matt and Vince can put you on the right mask and replace the lens on the spot.

* make sure the mask is the right fit BEFORE you have the lens replaced.

EXCELLENT advice! I replaced my lenses with rx ones season before last and they ran $25 each - they are not bi-focals tho.....what a difference it made, I could see the abs before I ran into them!

Thanks everyone! I'll give Aquan a call.  I've been looking at prices on the 'net and they are about $200+!  Good advice, Mooch, get the right mask before you get the lens.

you can actually get a mask with prescription lenses at the dive shop for about 100.00 + or - some dollars. For bifocals part you can get these static inserts as well. Its a lot easier these days to get done unless your prescription is really strong. i use prescription dive masks and they are great!

Thanks John.  It pretty confusing when you look at them on the web.  I guess I need to get over to a shop and check them out.

Thanks Mooch.  I talked to Matt last week and he was a great help.  I'll be heading down there in a couple of weeks to get my mask.

So I went to Aquan today. Three people working there, and none showed interest in selling me a prescription mask. They did, however, looked up the number of someone they knew that do custom prescription lenses. I then drove across to Wallin's and asked about the same thing. They were glad to sell me what I needed. ~$135 includes a new mask. I ended up spending a couple hundreds there for a few other things also. Hopefully I can now see where I'm going in the water  :smt003
