Good evening everyone, I hope all had a wonderful weekend. A friend of mine and I are planning to hit the waters for some halibut fishing tomorrow. Currently, we're looking to launch out from New Brighton or Capitola around 8am.

This is only our third time out on the kayak, and it is ADDICTIVE and such a BLAST!! :D I hope that some of our colleagues here can give us suggestions on which of the 2 is ideal for us to launch from. Lastly, we would greatly welcome anyone to join us :) Thank you all again for all the support!!

- Daniel

I might launch at New Brighton @ 1 or so. I've had better luck later in the day. There should be lots of bait there still and it seems that more fish are being caught in and around the kelp beds, but some days that changes too. I've seen a few nice halibut caught straight out from the stairs so you never know.

goodluck, aka-Kimo

When lapulapu and  I went hali fishing, we caught ours in the afternoon as well. I was thinking of all the ways I can possibly come with you but can't find one as I am on a hot project at work.

Go nail them. I will be waiting for your report.

Jed, I'm gonna be visiting the inlaws in Bakersfield this weekend so won't be around to hook up!!  :smt009

Let me know if you have any questions about the area, and wish I was gonna be here to fish with you!!

Sorry for the late reply, but if you're going to head out that way take some bait or artificials with you. Bait was very scattered this past weekend (I went out both Saturday and Sunday) and really took some work getting not to mention the competition from the sealions. A couple of other kayakers I talked to were having a heck of a time making any bait and were only throwing fish traps. The swell kicked up around 11:30 and most yaks were being blown all over.

Have fun.

Thank you gentlemen (aka-kimo, Jim, Danny, Jed) for responding back to my post; I sincerely appreciate all of your gracious advices and offers!! :D

I'm very sorry that I wasn't able to respond back since I was without internet access until this morning.

Mr. aka-kimo, were you out at New Brighton yesterday? I believe that I saw you out there fishing among the 5 other kayak fishermen. I was in the green 15' OK, while my buddy was in a white kayak. I wanted to come by and say hello, but I did not want to disturb/disrespect anyone, especially one that is yak fishing. I'm still a rookie who needs to learn all the proper etiquette of kayak fishing. The most important thing I forgot that day was my vhf radio!!  :smt012 I wish I had it so that I could have sent a communication over to the kayak fishermen.

I hope all had luck out on the water. I will leave a post in the proper forum. Again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart, and I sincerely look forward to meeting you all :D
