That would suck big time.  Lesson learned, at least record the serial number somewhere for the police report.

I have my drivers license # engraved on my kayaks in two different  inconspicous areas. To identify it I could tell the cops to use a #2 lead pencil over a certain area and the DL# is as clear as day.
