My intended trip to the big Scottish meet [ Sharkatag ] never materialised, as I could not get my car on the road before the Friday afternoon.  :smt009 . But then the opportunity arose to do an overnighter to the Jurrasic coast in Dorset. A trip I have been wanting to do for some time. We launched from  . Warbarrow bay is to the East of our launch site.

After going to the pub Friday night I got home and looked at the AA site in need of cheering up . An overnighter at Warbarrow ? I was thinking if I pack now and get up early I could be there in plenty of time. So I threw what I thought I might need in the car and 6 am I was up and on the road. I pulled into the car park in Lullworth Cove at about 09:30. I had a quick walk round then went back to my car to listen to the radio and wait for the cafe to open at 10:00 Within 10 minutes John drove in, so I had company for breakfast :) Tratty and Darnsarf pulled into the car park and as soon as we had rigged our yaks we were ready to trolley down to the beach.

It was a lovely paddle down to Warbarrow bay, I think we all managed a Pollack or two, we then anchored up and started to catch Wrasse, Pollack and Pout [ well the others did I never managed a Pout all weekend ::) ]

We then decided to make a move and have a bite to eat and stretch our legs. On the way Tratty found a cow. The cow, possibly suicidal? picked a huge cliff to leap/fall/be pushed from.
I know I am a bit sick but I thought this was really funny.

We then played in some caves.

From the darkness came forth madness !

After some food we headed out to 'Tratty's Conger ole' ;D I tried livebaiting with small Pollack. I persisted with this until well into dark but all I managed was a cuttle fish that squirted water all over me :o It was not a happy cuttle fish. Others did much better than me ;)
I headed in around 11 ish' and set up camp with a sail and a bit plastic sheet and a bin liner. Unfortunately a big lump of fossil filled rock was sticking out the beach, so I could not lay on my side without my arm going dead. This is my excuse for snoring all night ::)

The next morning we were up ready for more fishing ....after a leisurely breakfast. Cheers Tratty. John tried to catch a Bass without success, but not to worry the view was fabulous .

We again fished until dinner time catching much the same as before. Then it was time to head back. A bit of a chop had kicked up and what with the reflections from the cliff and the tide against us it was a bit of a slog back to Lullworth. When we got there a training ship had anchored up. A great sight as you enter the cove.

Then it was time to head up the hill, pack everything back in the cars and head over to the ice cream parlor. Delicious. It was a terrific couple of days fishing, in top company, with great scenery thrown in for good measure. I very much look forward to doing it again ;D

Always enjoy those reports overseas.  keep them coming, and thx!

Btw, the fish over there don't seem to get all that big. What's the biggest fish within yak distance?

Well we catch'

 Tope

Conger

Common Skate

Tratty and Darnsarf both had Conger to 30 lb at the weekend. So good fish can be caught. Not usually by me though  :smt012

With the size of that conger eel, it's probably a year's supply of unagi... thx.

Cool outing. And that's an amazing picture of the skate. I'd thought it would be extremely difficult to catch skate from a yak, as aren't they normally found pretty deep, and isn't standard practice to anchor up?

I'm surprised that I'd have to tell this to someone by the name of hamachijohn, but that would be a years supply of anago...

The fish are definitely smaller here in the UK, but the payoff is that they're generally tastier! Except for conger which apparently tastes wretched.

For reference, Tope = Soupfin

Correct!  Man, I've probably put my asian ancestors to shame...   :smt044 ...

If conger eels taste awful, maybe they just need a brushing of some soy sauce variety when on the bbq...

10am launch after a nice breakfast...catch fish, paddle in some caves, camp on the beach, catch more fish, iced cream to end the weekend. That is a yak fishing wet dream!
