Did a trip up there last Sunday and finally got some pic's to resize, cause I dont like a report without pic's.
I got up there @ 4 pm with my Dad and Bro. The campground was 90% empty. Took a walk down to the main Cove and the water was crystall clear blue, no wind and very little swell. So I quickly got suited up for a dive. My mouth was watering for some abalone. I farted around along the outer edges of the cove and wasn't seeing many abs and the ones I saw were all small. Once I got out into the middle of the cove @ 12' of water I started seeing bigger abs. I found a large boulder with a crack running down the middle, spotted one ab at the edge. Once I dove down I saw there were at least 10 abs in there, and they were bigger as it went back. I quickly got a nice limit out of there and headed back to finish setting up camp.

The next morning I hit a cove in SW North area and got a nicer limit of abs, 8"s and one 9.25", nice and meaty too.
Tuesday I went back to the same area but the swell and wind kicked up a little so it was more work, but I got another nice limit.
Wed I did a dive in OC again but visibility was getting messed up from the swell. I managed one more ab for the road. Had a great time camping.
I will probably take my yak next time and do some fishing if the Ocean is doable. I saw two yaks launch one morning, a single and a tandem. About an hour later the two teens on the tadem were walking through camp soaked and chilled to the bone. They said they rolled when the white caps picked up about a quarter mile off shore. Glad they were OK. Not sure how their other yak did fishing.

here's a pic of the Ocean before the wind really turned on, you can barely see it, but there is a tandem yak out there with the two teen's that got rolled. :smt009  and Ocean cove sunset

The two teens were ok, just very cold and happy to be back on dry land ! I don't think they had much experience on that tandem.

Thanks for the great report. After reading your report, I think I'll try Ocean Cove. I've dove just south of there at SW and picked out some nice abs in the past. After looking at Google Earth, the camp ground looks bigger than I thought. Is it still $20 to camp there?

Yep,still 20$ and very convenient with the little store there. The hot showers went up a little $2.00 and you get a good long shower, bring quarters!
