Got out fishing with my daughter today and little did I know what a great day it would turn out to be. We launched at New Brighton @ 8 and did a lot of drifting and trolling for 3 hrs for nada. Then ventured into the kelp bed area. Right after I droped into a hole between the beds I got a big take down, sardine was destroyed but didnt hook up. Put another fat live dine on and did a circle over that same area, within a few minutes it was ON!!!
At first I thought ok, is this a seal, batray or what. Got the fish up to show color and damn! its a big butt!

It did a few runs for the bottom, at one ponit it hit the bottom and ran sideways into a kelp patty. I thought dang I hope I dont loose this fish to the kelp. The fish pulled me into the kelp to and at one point I had my daughter give the tail of my yak a shove out over the other side of the kelp. I got turned to face the fish and he slid right out of the kelp. Got him gaffed and on the stringer before I took the big wood to his head. WHEWWWWWW !!!!

I got many pics and had fish weighed on two scales. Both 26.5 lbs....42.5"

Stripers were fone today, but a few halibut bit the sardines.  I got a smaller one on the kelp edge closer to Cap.

Nice fish man!!

Wow!! Awesome but there brother :) I'm actually planning to hit the waters with my kayak Monday. Maybe SC/Capitola is a good option to wet my yak & line. Thank you for sharing your wonderful day with us. Happy Father's Day to you sir and the rest of the father fishermen here :D
