Guys, day two, COMPLETELY PAIN FREE! I have been pushing it a bit too. Went hiking and fishing the high lakes on 88 today, all day. Tomorrow we are going buck hunting, and have a good hike planned. You have no idea how alive I feel, and able! You will see me on the water very soon!

For those of us who have cancer running in the family we have to get checked as well... even us women. I started getting my 5 year colonoscopy checks at 21.
I also have to worry about silly things like HPV which men carry but more often then not show no signs ir symptoms. I was told around 22 that I had HPV strain 16, which is one of the high risk strains. Luckily it has not progressed (as far as I know) ...

I think that is enough divulging of things for now.

Kat, I am sure you have the Chancho strain in your system! I heard it only lasts 9 months, but we all know that is bull crap! They need to make a birth control pill, that works after the fact. In my case, WAY after the fact.

Ah, but when your old... You get to unexpectedly drop in on your kids to visit the grandchildren with awesome mountains of candy and loud ass toys that the batteries never die on. Eat their food then leave without even clearing a dish!!!! NICE :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 On the original thread, I already got checked and will every 2 years now. Rich, sooooo happy for you bro!!! Sometimes doctors DO help. Glad you got some relief :kick
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I am very new here, and new to the kayaking scene.  But after reading all these stories and seeing all the support I wanted to chime in with my own story.  Here is the most important part.

** even the young members need to keep an eye on their bodies ** check you moles and body often for abnormalities.

I am 29 years old, lead a healthy lifestyle out side of drinking loads of beer, never been sick a day in my life and I am about to start treatment for stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  I noticed a lump under my left arm after a motorcycle crash at Sonoma Raceway on May 1st where I cracked most of my ribs.  The lump grew quickly and I went in for testing.

I have 0 symptoms outside of this lump.  If I had not had that crash it might have never showed itself.   Keep an eye on your body and never forget to stay focused on what is important in life.

Scotty...

Welcome!  Thanks for sharing your story.  It's all too true.  I'm as guilty as the next ... maybe even more so.  My dad went at 72.  NEVER sick ... EVER.  Out of nowhere ... cancer & death.

I'm glad the outcome from the problems in your back have started to finally turn around and be positive!  It surely could have gone the other way. Nobody wants to see that!

Scotty,

Very scary!  We wish you the best in your treatment.   Get to the best facility you can afford or steal so that you can afford the best.  We have a friend in Santa Barbara that is an oncologist.   He finished all of his school work fairly recently.   He said that many oncologists are working on very outdated information and it is critical to get the best Dr you can.   He said he sees that the doctors generally ten years behind the currently available information.  Get to a major medical center and PUSH them!  I hope you can recover in a timely manner, however Stage 4 does sound very scary.  Take care buddy.  PM me if you  think I can help out with something.  These guys should be the best http://www.mdanderson.org  My dad has done well with his very bad prostate cancer here http://www.cityofhope.org  I'm sure Stanford would have excellent treatment options as well.
