You can see me get my butt handed to me by a big Tuna in Panama in this, now on line, segment of The Kayak Fishing show.

http://www.youtube.com/user/KayakFishingTales

This fish absolutely kicked my butt. Toughest fight I have ever had, much tougher than the Marlin I have caught.

Jim let go. What a lightweight.  :smt001

That thing erupted when it felt the gaff.

Kayak fishing the sonoma coast for over 30 years. Nothing up here can or will ever compare to that. I just want to know one thing. How many times did you get frightened or just wanted to either cut -off or have the line part. There must have been more than a few heart in the throat moments. Congrats on the catch. Any dissenters are just jealous fools.

Congratulations Jim, Wow what a fight and to catch it on film. Hopefully some day we all can tie into a fish with such an attitude.

Yeah, I like the one guys comment ...why spend all day on one "small" fish when you can get in a boat and catch ...bla bla bla....

That guy doesn't have a clue. He should try kayak fishing and maybe he would end up like the rest of us kayak fishers, excited with ANY catch..

Thanks Guys, I have actually not seen any of these comments you are talking about????
As far as frightened or wanting to cut it off, NEVER ON YOUR LIFE. I knew what I was in for and was in it for the long haul. Just wish I had hooked it earlier so I may have had a chance at landing it myself. Though my back and hands were pretty cramped up so not sure I could of done it anyway. I did learn many things on this fight that should help me if I get the shot at another big one.

Jim -

Good job on a fine piece of sashimi. A wise kayak angler with the initials PL told me many years ago that trying to land a YFT over 100# on a kayak was foolhardy. Guess he was right.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 Actually, a couple of the guys I fish with target big sharks and have given up their gaffs for home made harpoons and snares. The hapoon causes a lethal injury and when they are dead you snare them and tie them to the hull. Then paddle home like "Old Man and the Sea". Kind of makes sense in some ways especially if your nickname is "Ahab".
