With school out :smt001 and no work responsibilities :smt003
I took my annual pilgrimage to trout heaven the Hat Creek valley area.

Left Redding 6:30 am and OTW at Baum Lake by 8:00 am.
Fished until 2:00 pm for 1 real nice fish and amazing wildlife and scenery (See Video)
The bite was very slow, nuthin like last year as many of the pontoon guys reported skunks :smt012
Then decided to pack up the yak and head up to the upper Hat Creek area.

The upper Hat Creek area had a big fire go through it last summer so the scenery had changed since I was up there a year ago :smt010
Pulled into my secret no charge camping/fishing spot to find the area charred and barren. Set up camp and had dinner before fishing until dusk for 5 planters up to 14 in. all released unharmed :smt001

Spent all day Tues. hiking/fishing the upper creek for so many planter bows I lost count :smt003
Released all but 2 due to injury. Went to bed with the plan of fishing Baum early Wed. morning until noonish.

I awake at 5:30 am to heavy wind and rain,  :smt012
I decide not to try Baum again, pack up and head home in time to see the wife before she goes to work. :smt008

Put together a video of the big fish of the trip and the scenic beauty of Baum Lake and Hat Creek :smt001

Nicely done Tad, I was wondering how you were fairing.  We spent a few weekends hunting the edge of the burn last fall, the fishing sure is better than the deer hunting around there!  Once this weather stabilizes things should turn around everywhere...seems everything is about 6-8 weeks behind the gun this year.

Nice fish Tad!  I would rather have seen it measured next to a piece of bacon and a cold beer though  :smt003  I love trout, definately one of my favorites.

The creek was really flowing, amazing the water we have this year.  Glad you got out there and had some fun.  Take care bud,

Matt

Thanks for the report!  I was wondering how Baum and Hat were fishing.  I was on Upper Hat for work today, and it looked a little high and fast.  But I guess it wasn't too bad, since you caught quite a few fish despite the conditions!

Shasta is full to the brim FM1, fished it on Sunday for non-stop action on the spots and the trollers are still pulling in some nice trout.  The wakeboarders/jet skis are just hitting the water, another two weeks and the bite will be done.
