I fished Pigeon Point with Bill and Dr. F.  So here’s the report…

The swell was bigger than I thought.  It looked like a West rather than North West, so the point wasn’t providing much cover.  The three of us opted to do a beach launch.  Bill and the Dr. got out with grace and speed.  I was a bit behind them.  As I started out, a wave – much larger than I expected – sucked all the water out from under me.  I was literally sitting on a rock, three feet out of water, staring at a 6 foot face about to collapse on me.  Needless to say, I got wet.  So after a quick self rescue I punched out to join my fishing friends.

There was a lot of wildlife out.  The three of us saw a nice fin about 50 yards west of our location.  “That’s a dolphin” I reassured everyone.  And I’m pretty sure it was a dolphin.  A little later, we had a few seals and a ginormous sea lion.  I don’t like sea lions.  Then, all the wildlife was gone.  Bill and I were looking at our landing, and saw two big fins between us and the launch.  I’m pretty sure those were dolphin, too, but at this point, I was getting a little spooked.

Oh - the fishing…  It sucked.  I caught a keeper ling, and the Dr. caught a rockie.  I went to take a picture of his rockie, and realized that while I brought my camera, I didn’t bring the battery for it.  It’s been like that for me recently.  But the Dr. got some snaps, so hopefully he’ll post.  We got on the water at 8:00, and we were off a little after 10:00.

The landing was super hairy.  The swell got bigger, and as the Dr. and I were sitting in the lineup, I was watching big 6-8 foot rollers hit the beach.  So we landed at the lighthouse beach.  No problem there – other than a long paddle.  Bill did land at our launch spot, and drove over to pick us up.  Despite the slight to our manhood, the Dr. and I caught fish and Bill only caught the bottom of the ocean, so we didn’t feel too lame.

I’m up for fishing again – maybe this weekend?

Thanks for the report. Too bad on the conditions though but that seems to be the way this seasion is going. I hope it does decide to mellow out for us sometime soon but this weekend it looks like another windy one. Hope to get down there and fish with sometime soon.

Glad you guys made it safely.  Hopefully the ocean will mellow out a bit next week.  Thank you for the report Mike.

Great effort Mike!

I drove past PP this weekend, and it was blown out.

This weekend doesn't look much better, but Sunday does look better than Saturday.

Hope to see George's pics too!!

Nice call that you and George made on opting for the safer landing...if you had ate it hard coming back in you would've been kicking yourself in the ass for a long time!!  :smt002

A hard landing there requires a helmet, its all reef and rocks, and shit that will cut you up.
