Hit up Bayside at 6:00am for some squid then down to stillwater cove.  Got to the cove at 7:00am and had it all to ourselves.

Got our gear together and headed out.

Worked our way out to this rock and played around for a while.

Wind came up, then back down, then back up.  Worked the kelp line for 3 hours for 3 cod and a couple cold beers.  Back in for a adult beverage and just hung around the pier relaxing for a while.

My first hog trough shot..LOL

Another nice day in the bay....

Next up is going to be Big Sur.  Time to slay some reds...

Hoping to join you out there soon Jerry! I tried to fish in Carmel on Sunday and it was borderline unfishable w/15-20kt gusts and mixed&steep swell, so we bailed early. Was wishing I paid the 10 bucks to fish inside the protected cove there. Maybe this wknd?

WTG. I see the pool noodle on your rods, does that get in the way at all? kinda like that idea

Pool noodles Rock.   You only need a little piece to make your rod and reel float.  The big blue one in the pic is getting replaced with a small one.  They actually work great while fishing.  Hell you can hook your lure to it inbetween fishing the kelp holes.

No more leashes...

Cool. I think I'll do that to my nice boat rod. I always just leashed it, but that can be a pain reaching behind you trying to unclip the rod. Would be much simpler to just be able to grab it.

I should have joined you guys. My brother wanted to try surf fishing for perch. We started out early to catch the low tide and work the incoming. Fished hard for nada. Two guys flyfishing was at it for about 4 hours for one small 7" perch. I kept saying that we should of got on the yak.
We did bury our ankles in the sand and pulled up some clams. That will be made into paella for dinner tonight.

did you have to split the noodle to get it over the eye or did you ziptie it just to keep things tight? great idea. My friend just lost a rod and I'll have to share your idea with him.
