Launched at NB with my buddy Pete today. It was nice they had the gate open at 7:25am when we pulled in there. Wish they would do that more often. We got out to a open area between the kelp beds and I decided to troll around the outside of the kelp. Had some luck before doing that. After maybe 5 min I had a huge take down, bam! ,came unbuttoned. Drop down and right away, bam! another good strike, spit the hook again! Then I snagged the bottom. While screwing around trying to unhook my snag, my buddy was trolling over my way, he got real close to me and thought he snagged up too. But then I see his rod tip jerk a few times and I knew it was no snag. I told him to set the hook hard ( something I should have done) and BAM ! fish on! it was taking line and he got it half way up twice and it headed for the bottom. I thought for sure he had a nice Halibut on.
Pete finaly got the fish to color and all I saw was this massive head, DAM ! HUGE LING !
Biggest Ling I've seen caught in Capitola in years. Measured out at 33" and we guess about 15#
I hooked a few small Cabs and gophers, all released. Kind of a slow day, didn't see any Halibut and not much bait in the water today. But had a blast watchin my buddy land that Ling. At least they show up in Capitola once in awhile....tight lines, aka-Kimo

Ya, every now and then a nice fish gets caught in Capitola. I tend to fish there more often for the weather than for the fishing. But today it suprised the heck out of me. Im looking forward to more halibut moving in. I heard of a couple being caught today near the soquel hole. So I guess they are still hanging in the deeper water. I might try an afternoon trip there later in the week.

  Hey Bigjim

We were just bouncing a swim bait along the bottom at a slow paddle. I had a white 7" one , my buddy had a 5" two tone one, brn/grn. Goodluck

Thanks for the report.
I've never launched there, usually from the pier. How was it getting your yak to the water's edge, weren't there a long set of stairs?
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Ya Mako, at New Brighton there are some stairs, not bad though if you wheel your yak down the service road, then one flight of stairs to the beach. I usually lock my cart up to the railing....I will be hitting it there at least once a week when more Halibut start showing....good luck, aka-Kimo
